Change the Time and Date on your Time Clock

KB0001: Change the Time and Date on your Time Clock

Solution:

Daylight Saving Time For Your Business

Preparing your Icon Time Systems Time Clock for Daylight Savings

Older Icon Time Systems Time Clocks were programmed to start Daylight Savings under the old, original daylight saving dates.

To determine your time clock version, do the following:

  1. Press the lock button in the lower right of the time clock’s keypad
  2. Enter your security code. The default is “00 00 00”.
  3. Press the down arrow on the keypad twice.
  4. Press the Enter button at the SHOW OPTIONS display
  5. If the clock was programmed before 9/22/06, it is a clock with the old DST rules.

NOTE: The SB-100 PRO, RTC-1000, and TotalPass products are programmed with the new daylight savings dates.

To prepare for the new Daylight Savings dates, Icon Time Systems suggests either of the following options.

The Simple Solution:

Turn the Daylight Savings option off on your time clock and manually change the time at 2:00am or later on the appropriate date.

The below links will lead you through the process to disable the Daylight Savings mode:

Once you have disabled Daylight Savings below are links on how to change the time on your clock.

If you have a HandPunch clock you will need to change the time on the clock. HandPunch clocks do not automatically change for Daylight Savings. Click on the link below for instructions on how to change the time on your HandPunch clock.

The Alternative Solutions:

Call your local dealer or Icon Time Systems sales department, 1-800-847-2232 Option #3, to discuss alternative options to accommodate the Daylight Savings changes.

The History of Daylight Savings

FUN FACT:

In the U.S., 2:00 a.m. was originally chosen as the changeover time because it was practical and minimized disruption. Most people were at home and this was the time when the fewest trains were running. It is late enough to minimally affect bars and restaurants, and it prevents the day from switching to yesterday, which would be confusing. It is early enough that the entire continental U.S. switches by daybreak, and the changeover occurs before most early shift workers and early churchgoers (particularly on Easter) are affected.

States that do NOT observe Daylight Saving Time changes

Hawaii, Arizona, parts of Indiana, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and the American Samoa do not observe daylight saving time. The Navajo Nation observes daylight saving time, even in Arizona, due to its large size and location in three states.

FUN FACT:

Benjamin Franklin was the first person to conceive of the idea of Daylight Saving Time during his sojourn as an American delegate in Paris in 1784, in an essay, “An Economical Project.”

Some of Franklin’s friends, inventors of a new kind of oil lamp, were so taken by the scheme that they continued corresponding with Franklin even after he returned to America.
